
SOOK: Yayasan Petronas has reaffirmed its commitment to ecosystem restoration and community resilience by supporting the planting of 1,000 trees in conjunction with the national-level International Day of Forests 2026 celebration here.
Organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, the event brought together government agencies, local communities and environmental stakeholders to advance forest conservation and ecosystem restoration efforts.
Representing Yayasan Petronas, General Manager of Petronas Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab, joined other dignitaries in the tree-planting ceremony.
“Through the One Million Trees initiative, Yayasan Petronas demonstrates its commitment to advancing environmental stewardship through collaborative efforts that benefit both communities and nature,” said Siti Ayu.
The contribution forms part of Yayasan Petronas’ One Million Trees initiative, a nationwide effort aimed at supporting forest restoration and strengthening community resilience through Nature-based Solutions across Malaysia.
The initiative, which focuses on terrestrial and mangrove conservation as well as community resilience, is part of Yayasan Petronas’ environmental pillar.
The symbolic tree-planting ceremony was led by Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Zulkifli Suara and witnessed by Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup at Dataran Sook.
The three-day celebration was officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
