Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry specifically the Department of Agriculture, must take immediate action to the increase number of tractors and harvesters in Limbahau and in other major rice-producing regions in the State.
Limbahau Assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim said despite the vast stretches of fertile paddy land in Limbahau, farmers are struggling due to a shortage of harvesters and ploughing machinery.
“Vast paddy fields stretch as far as the eye can see, but without proper equipment, yields are suffering.
“This shortfall is affecting both rice yields and overall production. Timely support is crucial to ensure that rice fields are fully used during harvest seasons, especially as global food supply chains face increasing uncertainty.
“This isn’t just about production — it’s about food security. We must act now to ensure Sabah can play its part in feeding the nation,” Juil said.
