‘Yeah, baby’: Mike Myers confirms long-awaited Austin Powers news

Mike Myers is no longer being coy about the possibility of a fourth Austin Powers film. The actor has finally confirmed that another installment is on the way.

The comedian, 63, who stars as the titular secret agent in the franchise’s first three films — Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) — has for years been teasing another potential sequel.

During a Wednesday appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party YouTube series, Myers gave a resounding “yes” when asked by a fan whether there would be an Austin Powers 4.

“Wow, that was a quick ‘yes,’” Noah replied. Myers did not give any further details.

The Shrek star previously insisted he would like to have another film more heavily centered on Dr. Evil, the franchise’s main antagonist, also played by Myers.

Myers was previously questioned about Austin Powers 4 in a 2022 SiriusXM interview. While he said he “would love to do” another movie for the beloved comedy franchise, he added: “I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project, should it exist or not exist.”

When the hosts said Myers’ response felt “like a confirmation,” he joked: “It was a non-confirmed confirmation confirmation.”

Later, in 2024, he reiterated his earlier comments, adding to Entertainment Weekly: “That’s right. I hinted at that possibility earlier. And I’ve generally avoided spilling the beans about specific plans.”

In 2020, franchise director Jay Roach addressed a fourth film in an interview with Deadline, saying: “I wouldn’t say ‘never’ never, but it does depend on Mike having something that he’s inspired about, and after all these years it hasn’t quite clicked yet. But I’m always game for anything he wants to do. He’s a genius and he helped me get started and it was a blast.”

The first three films collectively grossed more than half a billion worldwide and have become enduring cult classics. It has been over 20 years since the last Austin Powers film was released. In that time, however, there have been numerous parodies and spin-offs of the films.

Recently, Verizon released a new commercial titled “Dr. Evil Returns!” featuring Myers’s bald, gray-suited villain sitting around a conference table to introduce his new invention, Menace Mobile. Myers was joined by co-stars Seth Green, Mindy Sterling and Rob Lowe.

“We’ll have the most confusing pricing and plans of all time,” Dr. Evil says in the advert.

“Sucks!” Green’s Scott Evil huffs. “This isn’t evil. This is just typical phone company stuff. It’s literally already what everyone hates.”

“No, Scott, you’re literally what everyone hates,” Dr. Evil retorts to his angsty son. “Hate the game, not the player.”
