Api-Api PBS information chief Yee Tsai Yiew has urged the federal government to urgently address the ageing infrastructure of government clinics in the state capital.
Yiew said many clinics are operating beyond capacity with outdated facilities, insufficient equipment, and deteriorating surroundings, requiring immediate intervention.
She highlighted the critical shortage of space, damaged chairs, and outdated medical equipment such as ultrasound machines during her visit to the Kota Kinabalu Women and Children’s Clinic in Kampung Air.
Yiew, who is also Special Officer to the Chief Minister, stressed that healthcare is a federal responsibility and called for proper funding to ensure all citizens receive quality healthcare.
As a short-term measure, she donated 24 new chairs to the clinic while reiterating the need for systemic, long-term investment in Sabah’s healthcare infrastructure.
