A yoga programme was organised at Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV), Khanpur Kalan, by the Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) in collaboration with the district administration and the AYUSH Department. Held at the university sports ground, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students, faculty members, staff and local residents.
Krishan Lal Panwar, Cabinet Minister for Development and Panchayat, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while the programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudesh.
The event commenced with a mass yoga session during which participants performed various yoga asanas and pranayama under the guidance of trained yoga instructors.
Addressing the gathering, Panwar said that the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights one of the most important needs of modern society.
He emphasised that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a scientific discipline that harmonises the body, mind and soul. Healthy, active and dignified ageing begins with habits developed during youth, he said, making it essential for young people to embrace yoga early in life.
The minister further remarked that the younger generation, particularly female students, has a significant role to play in building a healthy society and a strong nation by incorporating yoga into their daily lives. “A healthy woman contributes to a healthy and empowered family. Therefore, promoting yoga among women is the need of the hour,” he said.
Highlighting India’s contribution to the global yoga movement, Panwar said the United Nations’ declaration of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 reflects the global acceptance of India’s rich cultural heritage. “Today, more than 200 countries observe Yoga Day, and millions of people have adopted yoga as an integral part of their lives,” he said.
Panwar emphasised that achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat-2047 requires healthy citizens, educated youth and empowered women.
The Vice-Chancellor described yoga as an integral part of India’s ancient cultural heritage that has guided the world towards health, balance and inner peace. She said BPSMV remains committed not only to women’s education and empowerment but also to the holistic development of its students.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the university’s growing achievements in education, research, innovation, sports and cultural activities, which have earned it a distinct identity at the national level.
Among those present were Kharkhoda MLA Pawan Kharkhoda; Bijender Malik, BJP district president (Gohana); Neha Singh, Deputy Commissioner; Ajay Chopra, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Registrar Professor Shivalik Yadav; officials of the district administration and AYUSH Department; faculty members; employees; and students.
