You broke your word: Zuraida slams Sng over PBM presidency

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Ampang MP Datuk Seri Zuraida Kamaruddin today rebuked her former close ally Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng for purportedly contradicting a resolution that was agreed to by Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s (PBM) highest governing body to appoint the former (Zuraida) as the party’s president.

In a statement today, Zuraida said Sng has also acted against the wishes of the majority of the party’s grassroots, leaders, and supreme council members by abusing his authority to remain in power.

“This matter (of my presidency of the party) has been validated through the party’s annual general assembly but since the conclusion of the 15th general election, Sng appears to have broken his promise and even blatantly acted against the will of the majority of PBM members and have abused his authority to remain in power,” she said.

Zuraida also said that Sng has acted in an immature manner by purportedly threatening PBM election candidates by not signing their watikah (appointment letter) and barring them from running on the party’s ticket if they do not abide by his authority.

She claimed Sng’s actions in revealing internal party matters without prior consultation with party members have also irked the majority of party members.

“As a democratic party, the PBM president should first discuss before taking any actions and making any decisions.

“At this time, Datuk Larry Sng has showcased his immaturity, arrogance, and failure to think rationally in governing the party,” she said.

Previously, Zuraida was named as the “president-designate” last June. She was then named the president of the party on October 8 following the party’s annual general assembly.

However, at that time, Sng explained that he remains the president of the party as there are several requirements that needed to be satisfied as stipulated by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) before Zuraida’s presidency can be properly recognized.

Then on October 29, Sng suspended Zuraida as a regular member along with 12 other supreme council members.

He claimed that the group had an “ongoing involvement in undermining the interests of the party and its leadership”.

Speaking to the Vibes last week, Sng had urged Zuraida and party secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad to respond to their suspension letters or risk losing their membership.

In her statement today, Zuraida said she will leave the matter of her presidency to party members and the RoS to resolve.

She explained that she will continue to assist in national development through her non-governmental organisation, Penggerak Komuniti Negara, which now has linked up with Tan Sri Annuar Musa’s Muafakat Nasional. – The Vibes, December 25, 2022
