The government has approved more than 5,000 applications to transfer subsidised diesel quotas under the BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel) programme to immediate family members, making it easier for the family member who drives the vehicle to buy diesel at the subsidised price.

Transfers Can Be Done Online Or At LHDN Offices

You can apply to transfer the subsidised diesel quota through the BUDI MADANI portal or at any LHDN office. The transfer only works between immediate family members, such as from a parent to a child.

Once the transfer is approved, the family member driving the vehicle can verify their eligibility with their own MyKad at the pump and pay the subsidised price of RM2.10 per litre, instead of the market rate. There is no need for the registered owner to be present at the petrol station.

Over 200,000 Pick-Up And SUV Owners Approved For Extra 100 Litres

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has also approved more than 200,000 applications from owners of diesel pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) for an additional 100 litres of subsidised diesel each month. This raises their monthly quota from 200 litres to 300 litres, effective July.

As of 4 July 2026, more than 174,000 recipients in Peninsular Malaysia and over 22,000 in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan had been approved. The extra allocation is meant to cover the higher diesel consumption of these vehicles, especially among traders and those living in rural and remote areas. If you own an eligible pick-up truck or SUV and have not applied, you can do so through the same BUDI MADANI portal.

Diesel Boats And Longhouse Generators May Be Covered Next

The government is also considering extending BUDI Diesel eligibility to diesel-powered boats and generators used in rural Sabah and Sarawak. Some people in these areas do not own diesel vehicles but rely on diesel boats for river transport, and the government is working with the Sarawak Rivers Board to include them among eligible recipients.

Diesel generators used in longhouses in remote areas are being considered too. State governments are currently compiling the names of eligible recipients, and the government says it will continue to monitor the situation before confirming any expansion.

Changes For Households Sharing A Diesel Vehicle

Before the transfer facility, only the registered owner could buy diesel at the subsidised price. A family where the father owned the truck but the son used it for work would either miss out on the subsidy entirely or have to arrange for the father to fill up the tank himself. At the unsubsidised rate of RM4.37 per litre, filling a 60-litre tank costs around RM262, compared to RM126 at the subsidised RM2.10 rate. That is a difference of roughly RM136 per full tank, or potentially several hundred ringgit a month for someone who drives regularly.

The transfer facility fixes this without requiring families to change vehicle ownership, which involves JPJ paperwork, transfer fees, and possible insurance adjustments. If the main diesel driver in your household is not the registered owner, transferring the quota lets that person use the full 200 litres each month, or 300 litres for approved pick-up and SUV owners.

You can check your eligibility, apply for a quota transfer, or apply for the additional 100 litres through the official BUDI MADANI website.
