Starting September 30, the government will introduce tighter controls under the BUDI95 programme.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the measure is meant to prevent people from taking advantage of the system, with safeguards being developed to track purchases and block those making multiple attempts in the same day.

He confirmed that the mechanism “will not allow multiple fills in one day,” but added that the technical details on how this will actually be enforced will only be revealed later.

What’s confirmed so far is that the subsidy will apply to all Malaysians aged 16 and above with valid driving licences, with a monthly quota of 300 litres per person.

E-hailing and p-hailing drivers can apply for larger quotas if verified by their platforms, while foreigners won’t be eligible for the scheme at all.

However, questions remain about the implementation.

Amir Hamzah said petrol stations have already upgraded their systems to meet the deadline but urged the public to be patient in case of minor hiccups during the initial rollout.
