- Thousands of young people in the UK are being urged by the government to claim forgotten Child Trust Funds (CTFs), with over 750,000 accounts currently unclaimed.
- These long-term, tax-free savings accounts, established for children born between September 2002 and January 2011, hold an average of £2,200 each.
- HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will contact 21-year-olds entitled to these funds, as part of a wider government awareness campaign.
- Young people can locate their CTFs, which mature at age 18 allowing withdrawal or reinvestment, via the free 'find my child trust fund' service on gov.uk.
- Economic Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby has convened providers to improve efforts in reconnecting savers with their funds, aiming to give young people a better start to adult life.
