Young courting couple perishes in fiery crash on Johor estate road

THE two individuals who were burnt to death in a car fire at Kilometre 32 of Jalan Tanjung Balau–Sedili in Kota Tinggi, early Wednesday morning, have been identified as a young couple.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Superintendent Yusof Othman, confirmed that the victims were Muhammad Daniel Saberi, 21, and Aiza Nur Elysha Sabri, 17.

“Initial investigations revealed that Muhammad Daniel was a member of the armed forces but is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment,” he said. “Aiza Nur Elysha was a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Semenchu.”

Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 4:30am, involving a Toyota Vios driven by Muhammad Daniel.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle lost control before veering off the road and crashing into an oil palm tree near a plantation area, causing the car to burst into flames,” Superintendent Yusof stated in an official release.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene with severe burns over their entire bodies. Their remains were taken to the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital for post-mortem examination to aid in the ongoing investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - October 22, 2025
