SHAH Alfie Yahya, a young candidate from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and brother of Putatan Member of Parliament Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya, described the 11-cornered contest in the Tanjung Keramat state seat as a reflection of Sabah’s democratic openness.
Making his electoral debut, Shah Alfie appeared composed and mature, viewing the intense competition as an opportunity for all candidates to demonstrate their capabilities. He acknowledged that questions about experience were inevitable but expressed confidence that his track record in public service would resonate with voters.
“My aspirations certainly prioritise the youth, who make up approximately 60 per cent of the electorate in Tanjung Keramat, but I have not forgotten voters of other age groups,” he said.
Shah Alfie highlighted his three years’ experience as a Special Officer in the Putatan Parliamentary Office, as well as his role as Secretary of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah division, which he said gave him a clear understanding of local issues and community needs.
He expressed confidence that careful planning and strategy could secure electoral success, while emphasising his hope that the campaign would remain harmonious and professional for the benefit of voters.
Addressing public attention on his family connections, Shah Alfie insisted that his candidacy was based on party mandate rather than personal popularity.
“This is not a major issue. My nomination is a party matter and has received the endorsement of the GRS leadership and Parti Gagasan Rakyat,” he said.
He added that, although his family ties are widely discussed, they would not be relied upon to secure votes. “This is not a measure for me to coast on or use existing popularity. I want to serve with my own approach as a young candidate, for the advancement of local youth aspirations in Putatan.”
Shah Alfie faces ten other candidates in the Tanjung Keramat seat, including Sugarah @ Segarah Miasin (KDM), Farish Adamz @ Kanny (Perikatan Nasional), Jeffery Nor Mohamed (BN), Saifullah Phang (Independent), Mahadthir Asbollah (Parti Impian Sabah), Mil Kusin Abdillah (Anak Negeri), Azni Mohd Salleh (STAR), Rosdy Wasli (UPKO), Mohammad Firdaus Diun @ Awang (Warisan), and Jasni Matlani (Parti Bumi Kenyalang). - November 15, 2025
