A 24-YEAR-OLD man was fined RM4,000 by the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate’s Court after admitting to secretly filming a woman inside a supermarket bathroom.

Muhammad Syahmi Mat Ros pleaded guilty to charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which criminalises acts intended to dishonour a person through indecent behaviour, before Magistrate Iffa Nabillah Mohd Ishak.

Court documents state that the accused recorded a 28-year-old saleswoman using his mobile phone while she was inside the restroom.

The incident prompted police intervention, and Muhammad Syahmi was taken into custody on 28 November. He was remanded for five days to facilitate investigation prior to his court appearance.

The court imposed the RM4,000 fine after considering the nature of the offence, reflecting the seriousness of invading an individual’s privacy and the legal consequences of such actions under Malaysian law. - December 4, 2025
