A woman severely injured in an accident involving logs that fell off a lorry at the Bendahara intersection traffic lights on Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai, here, has been sedated following initial treatment at the Gua Musang Hospital. The incident occurred on the 9th of July.
The victim’s brother, Mohamad Azwa Kamarulzaman, 28, reported that his sister, Siti Norelyana, 21, has been transferred to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu. She is currently under close observation by medical personnel.
Mohamad Azwa explained that Siti Norelyana is set to undergo multiple surgeries to address severe injuries to her spine, hip, ribs, liver, spleen, lungs, and gallbladder. Additionally, her hip bone is fractured, and her intestines are in critical condition after being crushed by the logs.
"My sister was sedated around 6 pm, and doctors are now focusing on treating her intestines, which could develop complications," he informed Bernama.
Despite her sedation, Mohamad Azwa noted that Siti Norelyana is showing positive responses in her legs and hands. "She is fighting for her life with immense strength. The doctors have told us that she is battling her pain. I am grateful for the public's prayers and hope everyone continues to pray for her swift recovery," he said.
Adding to the family's distress, Mohamad Azwa revealed that Siti Norelyana was scheduled to marry in December this year.
The accident occurred when a lorry laden with logs experienced a malfunction. The turn-table of the lorry snapped as it made a turn at the traffic light junction, causing the logs to fall and crush the motorcycle Siti Norelyana was riding.
Gua Musang police chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, confirmed the details of the accident. Meanwhile, Mohamad Azwa refuted claims circulating on social media that his sister was pregnant, explaining that the blood seen in her pants was due to internal bleeding from her injuries.
He also addressed rumors that his sister had died following the incident. "We have received numerous false messages, including questions about her death, burial arrangements, and pregnancy status. I want to clarify that these reports are untrue. My sister is not married," he stated on his TikTok account.
Mohamad Azwa urged the individual responsible for spreading the fake news to remove the misleading content from social media. He emphasized that the family is already distressed by the tragic accident and does not need additional emotional strain from false information.
He also mentioned that Siti Norelyana's blood levels are low, and she requires blood transfusions due to the damage to her organs. "The doctors have informed us that her condition is critical and her chances of recovery are fifty-fifty," he said.
