The Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR Malaysia) has issued the official guidelines for the upcoming election day on November 19. The 10 steps voting guidelines were published on their social media platforms and the official website. Here is a simple rundown of what's going to happen tomorrow.

BEFORE VOTING DAY

1) Make sure to pick a convenient time within the set voting hours, and check your voting station online to avoid the crowd on election day.

The voting hours have been extended for this election with the anticipation of a larger turnout, especially with the auto-registration of all eligible voters in the country. Here are the official voting hours:

  • West Malaysia: 8am to 6pm
  • East Malaysia: 7:30am to 5:30pm

Advise arriving at the polling station early to avoid the crowd. Additionally, the EC has a recommended time to visit the polling station stated as well. However, it is not mandatory to follow the recommended time. Those bringing elders and children along are advised to be there earlier to avoid long queues under the gruelling sun or the unforgiving rain/thunderstorm.

2) Familiarize yourself with the location of your voting station. If particular protocols are announced make sure to know and abide by them.

You may check your voting information simply by downloading the MySPR app or visiting their website: mysprsemak.spr.gov.my.

3) Know who are the candidates in your voting constituency.

Look up the names of the candidates and who they are representing. Remember the candidates' party/coalition's flag. Most importantly, do not forget to bring proof of identity, COVID essentials, and water to keep you hydrated.

IT'S ELECTION DAY!

Since you are prepared for the day, proceed to your polling station within the voting hours (refer to above).

Verify your polling station in the voter's information provided in MySPR Semak. Once confirmed, proceed to your designated room and fall in line.

Here are the 10 steps guidelines by the Election Commission:

  1. Upon confirmation from the police officer stationed in your polling station, enter your polling centre in calmly manner.
  2. Hand over your MyKad/identification documents to the first election officer, and show them both of your hands for inspection.
  3. The first election offerer will hand over your identification documents to the second election officer for verification and confirmation. Make sure your ID number and name called by the first polling officer are correct.
  4. The second election officer will then ask you to drip your left index finger into the indelible ink on the desk. Make sure your nails are not painted before entering the premise.
  5. The third officer will then hand you the voting ballot.
  6. Head over to the head election officer's desk and hand over your mobile devices which you can collect once you are done with voting.
  7. It is time to finally mark your ballot! Go to an empty individual booth and vote. The name of the candidates of your voting constituency and their designated symbol/flag will be displayed on your ballot paper. Please only mark one 'x' on your candidate of choice.
  8. Insert your marked ballot paper into the correct ballot box available in the polling station.
  9. After you have cast your ballot, head over to the head election officer's desk again to collect your mobile devices.
  10. You are now done with voting! Please remember to leave the polling station immediately and not loiter around.

If you are having any issues with any of the steps above, please look for an election officer for immediate assistance. Oh, and vote wisely.
