The National Registration Department (JPN) has confirmed that the upcoming rollout of the new MyKad, set to begin in June, will not disrupt any government aid payments tied to your identity card.
That includes Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95). If you receive either form of assistance, your name stays on the system and your payments continue as scheduled, even during the transition period.
JPN issued the statement on 13 May in response to concerns that the card replacement process could cause disruptions or remove names from aid recipient lists.
How The Transition Works
JPN said it has been working directly with the ministries and agencies responsible for distributing aid to make sure recipient data stays intact. The migration of information will happen automatically within a central database system, so you do not need to take any action to keep receiving your payments.
The upgraded MyKad carries 53 security elements, up from 23 on the current version, and includes features like laser engraving, holograms, QR codes, and enhanced chip encryption.
No Rush To Replace Your Card
If you have seen messages circulating online claiming that your aid will be cut off unless you replace your card immediately, JPN has advised you to ignore them. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has also clarified that there is no legal requirement for existing holders to replace their MyKad straight away.
The replacement process will be carried out in stages. JPN has said further details on application procedures will be announced closer to the launch date. Your current MyKad remains valid in the meantime.
Millions Of Payments Run Through MyKad Every Month
SARA alone reaches more than 8 million recipients monthly, with credits loaded directly onto their MyKad. Budi95 uses the same card to verify eligibility for subsidised RON95 petrol. For lower-income households, elderly recipients, and communities in rural areas where access to JPN offices can be limited, the transition is understandably a source of concern.
JPN said its priority is to strengthen identity security without creating barriers to receiving government assistance.
