PITAS: A 20-year-old man died while four others were injured after a four-wheel-drive vehicle collided with a car along Jalan Kampung Kesagaan here on Saturday.
Kota Marudu District Police Chief Supt Simiun Lomudin identified the deceased as rear passenger Aqmad Danial Zulkifli, who succumbed to his injuries at Pitas Hospital at 10.16am.
Initial police investigations revealed that the four-wheel drive heading towards Pitas from Kota Marudu lost control while navigating a downhill bend, veering into the oncoming lane and crashing into the car.
The 20-year-old driver of the four-wheel drive and another passenger suffered back, neck, and head injuries, while the 20-year-old car driver and his 41-year-old passenger sustained head, neck, spinal, and limb injuries.
Simiun said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to extricate trapped victims before sending them to the hospital.
