THE state is involving the youth in its policy making by empowering them through associations under the Registrar of Societies or Registrar of Youth Organisations.
The Sabah Youth Council (SYC) acts as the parent body and prime mover in shaping the associations as well as looking after their welfare and development.
Minister Datuk Ellron Angin was replying to (PHRS-Kukusan) Datuk Rina Jainal who asked about the government’s involvement.
“The SYC is also an information provider working with government and private agencies from inside and outside the country.

Read more “To ensure the voice of Sabah’s youth is always heard, the State Ministry of Youth and Sports has drawn up many youth empowerment activities under the Sabah Youth Leadership Incubator initiative (IKEBS).
The minister said it led to the creation of the Sabah Youth Assembly and Felo Sabah Maju Jaya.
The Sabah Youth Assembly simulates the Sabah State Legislative Assembly conference giving the youth an opportunity to voice their ideas in the conference session.
“Under this programme, the youth can discuss and give ideas and views to the State Government regarding issues and government policies during the conference.
“In addition, the Felo Sabah Maju Jaya programme is also designed to provide exposure on management and State Government administration systems.
“Youth involvement in the programme gives them an opportunity to get involved in the planning and formulation of state government policies holistically.
“The Felo SMJ programme also provides opportunities to deepen and learn the functions and governance of at the highest level of a ministry and agency and at the same time they are being able to voice relevant policies to the youth,” he said.
Ellron said the aspirations of the youth deserve a place in the formulation of policies process.
“Apart from implementing their rights as a citizen, youth participation in the process of public policy formulation can also improve their position in driving the development of the country,” he said.
