PENAMPANG: The involvement of youth, especially Gen-Z, in the Kaamatan Festival is important in preserving traditional culture and customs.
Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan said various programmes were held to give them more opportunities to get involved in the annual party.
“These programmes include the Buvazoi Tavantang, folk sports at Institutes of Higher Education and secondary schools, singing competitions and creative dances specifically for school students.
“It is believed that their involvement will help in the effort to maintain and preserve culture and traditional customs so that they do not disappear with the passing of time,” he said.

“It is also able to help preserve and promote the culture and uniqueness of Sabah to tourists while also attracting more foreign investors to invest in the state,” he said.
Jeffrey said this year’s Kaamatan Festival also continued the Seeds’ Spirit Revival (SSR) programme which aimed to increase community awareness of environmental conservation, especially herbal plants.
He urged everyone to continue working hand-in-hand to preserve and conserve the environment in dealing with the issue of climate change and lack of food supply while enjoying modernization.
