YouTube to start automatically adding labels to AI-generated videos

  • YouTube is rolling out more prominent AI disclosure labels and an automatic detection system for AI-generated or AI-edited content, starting this month.
  • If creators fail to disclose AI use, YouTube may automatically apply a label, especially for content featuring “significant photorealistic AI use”.
  • For long-form videos, the AI tag will appear directly beneath the video player, while on YouTube Shorts, it will be a visible overlay during playback.
  • Creators can adjust labels, but some will be permanent, such as for content made with YouTube's own generative AI tools or those with C2PA metadata.
  • These labels aim to provide viewers with immediate context about AI-generated content but will not affect video recommendations or monetisation.
