UMNO President and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has shown his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s continued leadership, aligning with former Malaysian envoy to the United States, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz. Both leaders believe that Anwar should remain in office beyond the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16), emphasizing the importance of a stable and united government.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of Felcra Bhd’s closed-house system broiler farming project in Tanjung Seratus, Rompin, Zahid acknowledged that he shared Nazri’s sentiment on the necessity of Anwar securing a second term as prime minister. He highlighted that this aspiration reflects the collective vision of the Madani government, which aims to ensure Malaysia’s economic growth, political stability, and social progress.
“That is his (Nazri’s) aspiration and also our hope in the Madani government,” Zahid was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times when asked about Nazri’s statement. He was accompanied by Pahang Menteri Besar and UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, along with Felcra Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.
Nazri had previously voiced his firm belief that the unity government, which consists of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), remains the best option for Malaysia’s future. He expressed his concern about ensuring Anwar’s victory in GE16, stating that a second term for Anwar would provide continuity in governance and allow the coalition to implement long-term policies for the nation’s benefit.
Zahid’s endorsement of Anwar’s leadership underscores the growing unity within the ruling administration, which has faced political challenges since its formation.
Anwar’s government has been focused on economic reforms, social welfare programs, and governance improvements, aiming to address key issues such as cost of living, job creation, and foreign investment.
