THE country must intensify efforts to empower women through comprehensive measures, including improved access to financing, skills training, digital platforms and business expansion opportunities, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said.
He stressed that such an approach is essential as women continue to face mounting challenges from global economic uncertainty, which is affecting both the cost of living and the domestic economy.
Speaking after officiating the Voices of HER Forum on Monday, Zahid said the gathering brought together diverse stakeholders for meaningful discussions on the role of women in strengthening the national economy.
“Earlier this evening, I officiated the Voices of HER Forum, which brought together various stakeholders in a meaningful platform for discourse to discuss the role of women in strengthening the national economy.
“The role of women in building families, empowering communities and driving economic growth is immense.
“However, participation alone is not enough. Women must be given the space to have access to opportunities, assets and the capacity to make decisions so that they are truly empowered and able to lead,” he said in a Facebook post last night.
Zahid, who also serves as Rural and Regional Development Minister, said that through coordinated efforts and a holistic approach, Malaysia can build a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable ecosystem to ensure women continue to play a central role in economic development.
“God willing, these efforts will continue to be strengthened for a more resilient and prosperous future for the nation,” he said. - April 7, 2026
