KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has expressed his gratitude to the nation’s meteorologists for their dedication to public safety.

In a Facebook post marking World Meteorological Day 2026, he thanked all personnel, especially those from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), for their continuous monitoring and delivery of accurate weather information.

“Today, I would like to express my deep appreciation to all meteorologists, especially the personnel of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), for their commitment in continuously monitoring, analysing and delivering weather information to us,” he said.

He stated that every forecast and warning issued serves the vital purpose of protecting the people.

Themed ‘Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow’, Zahid said meteorology’s role is increasingly crucial for safeguarding future lives and well-being.

In a separate post, MetMalaysia said the theme highlights the importance of technology and accurate monitoring in protecting lives and the environment for future generations.

The department stated that today’s monitoring enables more effective forecasts, early warnings, and swift action to reduce disaster risks and climate change impacts.

MetMalaysia is also commemorating the 68th anniversary of Malaysia’s membership in the World Meteorological Organisation.
