ALOR SETAR: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has hit back at Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for seemingly shutting the door on any further collaboration with the Islamic party under Muafakat Nasional (MN).

“Umno is not just about the president (Zahid),” Hadi said on the sidelines of the PAS muktamar (annual general assembly) here.

Zahid, who was reported to have said in May that MN was “barely alive”, emphasised yesterday that the collaboration PAS now offers to MN was “shallow” as it not does take into account the needs of the people.

He also said there was “no need to mourn when PAS themselves were always playing safe and were in bed with many partners.”

Zahid was responding to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who said the two parties had never declared the demise of the alliance, which was forged in September 2019 when both parties were part of the federal opposition.
