KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today expressed sadness over the Pardons Board’s decision to defer former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s latest clemency application.

However, Zahid said Umno continued to uphold the institution and sovereignty of the Malay rulers, while appealing for wisdom in determining what would be best for Najib.

“We are saddened by the decision. However, we continue to express our utmost respect to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

“We appeal for all wisdom to be used in making the best decision.

“We continue to support the institution of the Malay rulers, we continue to uphold the sovereignty of the Malay rulers, and we hope that something best will be given to Datuk Seri Najib Razak,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after delivering his policy speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly at Dewan Merdeka here today.

Zahid was commenting on the Pardons Board’s decision earlier today to defer consideration of Najib’s application to a later date.
