HULU SELANGOR: BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said DAP, as a coalition partner in the unity government, deserves support from all the other component parties.

“There have been several state and parliamentary by-elections where leaders from DAP, Amanah and PKR have lent their support (to BN).

“So, now they have BN’s support, particularly from Umno. We feel it’s only fitting to reciprocate the assistance they provided during the by-elections in Tioman, Pelangai and Kemaman.

“We support both the state and federal governments, hence we want representatives from the ruling coalition (to win),” he told reporters at the Hulu Selangor district multipurpose hall and sports complex at Kampung Tun Abdul Razak in Kuala Kubu Bharu today.

He said he does not see MCA at its grassroots level having an issue with assisting PH in their campaigns, “but we understand and respect the party leaders’ sentiments”.

“We understand how they feel about this. However, we hope things will change and that they will warm up towards helping DAP,” he added.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will see a four-cornered fight among PH, Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and an independent candidate.

Pang will face PN’s Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting chief Khairul Azhari Saut, PRM’s Hafizah Zainudin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The seat fell vacant following the death of three-term DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21 from cancer.

Early voting has been set for May 7.
