Zahid submits three BN candidates for Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar

BARISAN Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has submitted the names of three BN leaders to Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, for consideration as the state's next Menteri Besar following the coalition's victory in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election.

Zahid said the final appointment rests entirely with Tuanku Muhriz, who will decide which of the three nominees will receive royal consent to form the new state administration.

“I have submitted three names to His Royal Highness and leave the matter entirely to Tuanku's wisdom.

“It is Tuanku's absolute prerogative to choose one of the names submitted as the new Yang Amat Berhormat Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan. Alhamdulillah, all three nominees are from Barisan Nasional,” he told reporters outside the Negeri Sembilan royal palace last night.

He said he had been summoned for an audience with Tuanku Muhriz after BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) officially secured victory in the state election.

“I was commanded to have an audience with Tuanku tonight (Saturday),” he said.

Earlier, Zahid, accompanied by BN and PN leaders, arrived at the palace at about 10pm to formally present the coalition's election victory and submit the proposed Menteri Besar candidates to facilitate the formation of the new state government.

Separately, Zahid called for the transition of power to be handled with respect and compassion, saying there should be no pressure on outgoing Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to immediately vacate the official residence.

He said political leaders should uphold principles of humanity and proper etiquette during the handover of power, recalling the treatment received by former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan following the 2023 state election.

“In my view, that should not happen. Even if the new Menteri Besar is sworn in as soon as possible, some reasonable time should be given.

“We are all colleagues in public service. We must show humanity and observe proper decorum in respecting one another,” he said. - August 2, 2026
