Kuala Lumpur: Jakel Group managing director Faroz Jakel today revealed that the company had considered legal action against the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman temple, but was advised against it by federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
The Hindu temple occupies part of the land owned by Jakel, where the company intends to build the Madani Mosque.
The proposed relocation of the temple to make way for the mosque had sparked public backlash.
Speaking at the mosque’s groundbreaking ceremony today, Faroz said Jakel had waited 11 years to begin construction but encountered multiple obstacles.
“But federal territories minister (Zaliha) stopped us, saying it would cause racial tension,” he said in his speech.
Instead, she advised him to take the matter directly to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for a resolution.
