SAN JUAN CITY Mayor Francis Zamora on Tuesday, May 5, said he is staking his name and credibility on the completion of long-planned upgrades to the San Juan Medical Center.
Zamora said the city government is working through a checklist of needed equipment, services and facilities for the hospital, with procurement already underway.
“We are completing these one by one. You can expect that my name is on the line here,” he said.
The issue gained renewed attention after Sen. JV Ejercito expressed concern over the condition and capacity of the San Juan Medical Center, prompting public discussion on the state of the city-run hospital.
Zamora acknowledged that the project cannot be completed immediately, citing the scale of improvements and procurement processes involved.
“There is no magic wand. No mayor can complete everything overnight,” he said, noting that some equipment and facilities require time to acquire and install.
Despite this, Zamora assured residents that the city has a clear roadmap for the hospital’s development and urged patience as upgrades continue.
He emphasized that the medical center remains a top priority of his administration.
Zamora said he is committed to delivering a fully equipped and modernized San Juan Medical Center by the end of his term.
“Give me until my last day, and I will make sure we complete what is needed for our hospital,” he said.
