INDEPENDENT preacher Zamri Vinoth has denied claims that he is trying to flee following the controversy linking him to inciting violence.
He claimed that he had no reason to do so and was ready to cooperate with the authorities if needed.
In a Facebook post, Zamri said he was also ready to meet the Inspector-General of Police to explain the matter.
"I will personally go and meet the IGP if necessary, God willing... I am not running away, and there is no need to run away," he said.
In the same post, Zamri also questioned why he was the target of accusations regarding several incidents of attacks, burning of vehicles and damage to houses that were reported to have occurred recently.
"Why is it only me who wants to be accused? What did I do wrong? What did I incite?
"None of our people attacked anyone. No one went to burn anyone's car, and no one went to attack anyone's house," he said.
He also claimed that other parties were accused of inciting several incidents of violence, but did not face any charges.
According to him, if he were charged, the same action should also be taken against other individuals who were allegedly involved.
Earlier, police confirmed that Zamri and activist Tamim Dahri, who are being investigated in several separate cases, had fled to Thailand.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said efforts were underway to trace the two individuals involved with the assistance of Thai authorities.
He said that the investigation into Zamri regarding his statement at a rally in the capital on Feb 7 had been referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers, and a charge had been ordered involving Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which is a statement that causes public mischief with the intent to cause or is likely to cause public fear or alarm.
In addition, the investigation into Zamri regarding the insulting statement against the Indians has been referred to the Penang Prosecution Office, and a charge order has been issued under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
Meanwhile, the investigation paper involving Tamim regarding the act of damaging the soolam, which is a sacred symbol of Hinduism at the old temple site in Langkawi, Kedah, has been referred to the Kedah Prosecution Office and a charge order has been issued under Section 295 of the Penal Code.
He said that the charges will be implemented in the near future after both individuals are successfully tracked down and brought home. – March 14, 2026
