Kota Kinabalu: A forensic document examiner told the Coroner’s Court here that her findings on questioned handwriting in two documents differed from those of the Chemistry Department, which had attributed the writing to Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Tay Eue Kam, the 79th witness, testified under questioning by Deputy Public Prosecutor Dana Arabi Wazani that she identified multiple writers and excluded several pages from Zara’s authorship.
She explained that certain pages could not be attributed to Zara due to an insufficient number of handwriting samples available for a proper comparative analysis.
The witness also agreed with the prosecution that she and another certified handwriting expert, Dr Linthini Gannetion, had examined the same exhibit—Y10B—but arrived at opposite conclusions.
Tay, however, declined to comment on whether the conflicting findings rendered the evidence unreliable, stating she was unaware of the specific methodology or standards relied upon by Linthini.
