Kota Kinabalu: The father of Zara Qairina Mahathir told the Coroner's Court on Monday that police informed him his estranged wife had previously lodged a police report against him alleging death threats.
Mahathir Mohd Hashim @ Marikin, 45, said he only discovered the alleged report after questioning police about the unusual nature of the interrogation when his statement was recorded.
Testifying as the 80th witness, Mahathir told counsel Shahlan Jufri that investigators had questioned him on how he allegedly beat and tortured his late daughter, allegations he strongly denied by stating he had never even flicked her ear.
Questioned by counsel Prem Elmer Ganasan, the witness acknowledged having marital issues with the mother, Noraidah, but maintained the allegation of a death threat went too far.
The inquest into Zara's death resumes on Sept 8.
