Kota Kinabalu: The mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir denied in the Coroner’s Court on Monday that she had ever claimed her daughter might have been murdered, saying she is still awaiting the police investigation report.
Continuing her testimony as the 82nd witness, Noraidah Lamat said she lodged a police report at the Sipitang district police headquarters seeking a probe after noticing dark red marks on the back of Zara's body while bathing her on July 17, 2025.
Testifying under questioning from counsel Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah, Noraidah dismissed suggestions that she attributed the bruises to murder or rejected the possibility of suicide on that basis, maintaining she only requested that the authorities investigate the matter.
When referred to an Aug 3, 2025 media statement issued by her family's legal team citing blunt-force trauma, she said the call for a transparent probe arose because the family had received no clear explanation from the investigating officer.
Responding to suggestions that the press release could imply physical violence by another party, Noraidah reiterated that her family simply wanted investigators to clarify findings rather than leave the public to speculate.
