KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Law Society (SLS) said lawyers involved in the Zara Qairina Mahathir inquest have been subjected to online abuse, threats, and intimidation.
SLS President Datuk Mohd Nazim Maduarin (pic) said in a statement on Wednesday that the Society had been monitoring the developments from the start and felt it necessary to state its position.
He stressed that any abuse or harassment against lawyers, whether online or otherwise, was unacceptable and an affront to the rule of law.
“All lawyers, whether representing parties, holding a watching brief, or appearing in other professional capacities, are simply carrying out their duties as officers of the court,” he said.
Nazim added that SLS stood firmly behind its members, saying that threatening lawyers for fulfilling their duty undermined the justice system and the right to representation.
