KOTA KINABALU: Police have confirmed receiving a report from forensic pathologist Dr Jessie Hiu on Friday following alleged threats linked to her testimony in an ongoing inquest, the New Straits Times reported.

City police chief ACP Kasim Muda said the report was lodged on Friday afternoon at the City police station.

Hiu, 58, stated that she was informed of the threats by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital director, who had received the information from online postings.

Her two-day testimony in the inquest into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir drew public attention after she stated it was unlikely the student had accidentally fallen or been pushed.

She clarified that it was for the court to decide whether Zara had jumped of her own accord, as her role was to provide medical findings.

Hiu, who has served at Queen Elizabeth Hospital since 1998, is a recognised expert in forensic pathology, conducting up to 150 autopsies annually and frequently testifying in Sabah and Labuan courts.

Meanwhile, lawyer Hamid Ismail, who represents Zara’s mother, posted on Facebook on Saturday, urging the public to respect Hiu’s professional work and refrain from personal attacks.
