KOTA KINABALU: The Coroner’s Court on Monday has so far heard from only 14 out of 68 listed witnesses in the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Counsel Datuk Ram Singh told reporters that Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan calculated the progress at just 19 per cent based on the number of deponents who had testified.
He said the inquest, initially scheduled to conclude by Sept 30, may stretch into December as the pace of witness testimonies has been slower than expected.
Ram added that assessments would be made on how many more witnesses to call, with the legal team likely to bring in one additional expert alongside others requested by Zara’s family lawyers.
The inquest is scheduled to resume on Tuesday with possibly two more witnesses expected to take the stand.
