KOTA KINABALU: The inquest into the passing of Zara Qairina Mahathir will go ahead as planned with 19 hearing days set for September in Kota Kinabalu.
State Court director Azreena Aziz, who is also a coroner, stepped aside from presiding over the inquest, with another judge to take charge of proceedings.
On Thursday, Azreena approved applications from counsels representing Zara’s family, giving them status as interested parties and access to all relevant case documents.
The court also granted applications from lawyers acting on behalf of five teenagers who face charges in the Court for Children in relation to bullying.
Zara’s mother attended the hearing, offering a quiet presence as the legal process moved forward.
