BEAUFORT: The death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir over a month ago has sparked a community-wide movement against bullying culture in the state.

What began as the Solidariti Aman Beaufort on Aug 16 has now evolved into the official launch of the “Stop Bullying, Start Empathy – We Are Anti-Bullying Heroes” campaign by the Pertubuhan Masyarakat Berpadu Sabah.

Its Chairman, Mohammad Norizhuan Awang, said the campaign arose from collective awareness following Zara Qairina’s tragedy and the community’s determination to prevent bullying from happening again.

“Bullying is not a minor issue, but a social crime that can destroy victims’ futures and leave trauma on families and society,” he said at the launch ceremony on Sunday.

The campaign employs various approaches including speech competitions, school awareness talks, and creative materials such as short videos, animations, and posters distributed via social media.

As a symbolic start, volunteers conducted a harmony survey around Pekan Beaufort, handing out anti-bullying leaflets and campaign badges to the public, especially targeting teenagers and youths.

Mohammad Norizhuan stressed that fighting bullying cannot be the responsibility of a single party but requires comprehensive cooperation from parents, schools, NGOs, and government agencies.

“With a spirit of solidarity, let us together become Anti-Bullying Heroes to create a safer, more harmonious, and humane environment for future generations,” he said.
