Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday said he had spoken with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about reinvigorating diplomatic efforts to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

Zelensky said the "positive" conversation took place during a stopover at Chișinău Airport in Moldova shortly after he met European partners of Ukraine.

He thanked Witkoff and Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, for their readiness "to work as actively as possible in the coming weeks to reinvigorate diplomacy aimed at ending Russia's war against Ukraine."

"We understand how much of the world's attention is focused on the situation around Iran. But our shared goal of peace in Europe remains on the agenda," Zelensky wrote on social media.

The Ukrainian president said they also discussed prospects in the context of the G7 summit and "other events in June."

The call came after Zelensky met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London on Sunday, where the leaders called on Russia to agree to a ceasefire and enter negotiations.

Zelensky last week expressed frustration that US negotiators had not yet travelled to Ukraine, although he had previously said they were expected in mid-April.

The United States has recently been mediating in Russia's war against Ukraine, which has been going on for more than four years.
