Ukraine has announced new talks with the United States as part of efforts to end the war, with President Volodymyr Zelensky saying National Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov will meet US representatives on Thursday.
Zelensky said the discussions aim to advance the diplomatic process, focusing on potential Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchanges and broader security cooperation between Kiev and Washington.
Zelensky added that Ukraine remains in close contact with US partners and is pushing for a “dignified peace,” while accusing Russia of failing to respond constructively to Kiev’s ceasefire proposals.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to take part in the talks, which are set to take place in Miami.
Negotiations between Kiev and Moscow have stalled, despite earlier US mediation, with attention partly diverted by the US war against Iran.
Ukraine, which has been fending off Russia’s invasion for more than four years, ended a self-imposed truce with Moscow after just one day this week. Kiev responded to continued Russian strikes with one of its largest drone attacks to date after Moscow refused to pause hostilities.
Russia, meanwhile, has announced a separate two-day ceasefire for May 9 celebrations marking the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. It remains unclear whether Ukraine will commit to this truce.
