Seven individuals were charged and convicted at the Kuantan Sessions Court and Temerloh Sessions Court under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) for minor littering offences in public areas.

In a statement, SWCorp Pahang said the offenders were found guilty of disposing of cigarette butts in public places under Section 77A(1).

Fines and sentencing

SWCorp added that the court imposed fines ranging from RM300 to RM1,000, or up to one month’s imprisonment.

The individuals are also required to complete 1 to 4 hours of Community Service Orders (CSO) within three to six months.

“SWCorp has reiterated that there will be no further tolerance for minor littering offences in public areas, after seven local offenders were charged and convicted at the Kuantan Sessions Court and Temerloh Sessions Court,” the statement read.

SWCorp also said it will continue to step up enforcement and prosecution, while expanding the use of CSO as a rehabilitative approach nationwide.
