David Bettoni has been named new head coach of FC Sion.
Zinedine Zidane's long-time assistant at Real Madrid has taken his first senior coaching job. Bettoni has signed an initial deal to the end of the season.
Zidane played an important role in Bettoni's appointment.
Christian Constantin, owner of Sion, told Le Matin that he was on the phone with Zidane for more than an hour to talk about Bettoni. According to the Swiss, it was Zidane himself who called him to talk to him about Bettoni.
"Without him I would not have been able to do what I did at Real Madrid," he acknowledged.
