沙赫米在第16屆全國大選中險勝尋求連任的希盟候選人阿旺胡賽尼沙薩哈里。
胡賽尼提出選舉訴訟,以挑戰選舉結果。
在 2022 年 11 月舉行的第 15 屆大選 (GE15) 期間，沙赫米在四角戰中僅以 124 票多數票獲勝。
沙赫米得票 16,234 張,而胡賽尼得票 16,110張。
其他候選人,即民興黨的阿末穆罕默沙益得票 8,511張，鬥士黨的巴特立派得票 394 張.。
