Home of the Bajau Laut

The Bajau Laut are known as Sea Nomads and travel and live on such boats. Although the numbers living as such have diminished as more have migrated to living on land, there are still a number of them who still have this strong affinity with the Sea. For those who have migrated to living on land though, they face different challenges from their forefathers. Living at the mercy of the sea is difficult, but adapting to modern living in towns have been difficult too. Many are undocumented and there is a huge disparity between cultures and practices. There are some who have moved into outlying islands in Sabah, and some who have moved into town. The few that live on floating villages and travel from place to place in such boats have dwindled. Over at Luma' Kembara, we get to see this quite often though as we are located on the channel that serves as a Sea highway between places of importance in Semporna.
