Merdeka Square - Kuala Lumpur

Merdeka Square, or Dataran Merdeka, is one of Kuala Lumpur’s most important historical and tourist landmarks. Located in the heart of the city, it is famous as the place where the Union Jack was lowered on 31 August 1957, marking Malaya’s independence from British colonial rule. The square features beautifully landscaped lawns, terraces, fountains, and a tall national flagpole. Visitors can admire the magnificent Sultan Abdul Samad Building and other historic architecture surrounding the area.
