π¨ Over 9,000 residents were displaced after about 1,000 homes were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan early on Sunday (19 April).
β’ The fire, which started around 1.30am, allegedly broke out after a resident lost control of a gas stove fire while cooking.
β’ The disaster was exacerbated by strong winds, insufficient water supply, and the wooden houses that were built closely together, village head Sharif Hashim said.
β’ Police have not received any reports of fatalities.
