China-Australia relations thawed in the 1970s owing to a spontaneous visit by two Australian table tennis players who played with Chinese professionals in front of thousands. The two pioneers of Australia's "Ping-Pong Diplomacy" have returned to China to commemorate their ice-breaking visit over 60 years ago.
