SEMPORNA: Forty-five gallon fuel tanks containing 1,125 litres of petrol, believed to be on the way to a neighbouring country, were seized at a house on stilts at Kampung Batu, here, Sunday.
Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the 9.30pm raid was jointly conducted by the police and marine police.
“Acting on a tip about suspected illegal activities in the area, our men found a wooden boat tied under the house with 30 gallon fuel tanks,” he said.
Another 15 gallon fuel tanks were tied to the pillars of the house in a floating condition, he said, adding all 45 tanks were believed to be meant for smuggling to a neighbouring country.
Mohd Farhan said when police approached the area, they noticed a few boats speeding away.
“Two boats with an outboard engine worth RM15,276 were seized and handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs,” he said.
