The Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) crisis does not seem to be easing, as in the last two days, the department has had around 1.5 lakh complaints pending.
Approximately 215 staff members, who sit in the control room and divert the complaints further, have gone on indefinite strike, due to which a huge backlog of complaints has accumulated.
Since the staff has gone on leave and no contractual employee is available to divert the complaints, PSPCL has given standing instructions to the SDOs to go to the control rooms and manage the traffic of complaints.
Having no other option, the SDOs and JEs have been doing the duties to divert the complaints to concerned linemen/area and ensure to the complaints are resolved.
However, since the engineers have no experience in this task, despite everyone being new, the work is progressing slowly. “Still, somehow, the work is being managed,” said the Chief Engineer J S Hans on Saturday.
It may be mentioned here that the employees who sit in the control rooms of PSPCL have the job of receiving complaints from people and forwarding them to the correct area so that the problem be fixed by the linemen.
Since the strike is continued, work is being handled by the SDOs, who have absolutely no expertise in this task, which is why there are even more pending cases (complaints).
The main demand of those on strike is that they want to be regularised, as they are still working on DC rates.
