Home Ministry says 1,869 PDRM personnel were arrested for drug abuse from 2020–2025, with 324 dismissed following disciplinary action.

PETALING JAYA: A total of 1,869 officers and personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) were arrested for drug abuse between 2020 and 2025 under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, according to the Home Ministry.

In a written reply to the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that of the total, 91 were officers while 1,778 were rank-and-file personnel. Of these, 958 individuals have since been charged in court.

“A breakdown showed that 35 were charged under the supply category pursuant to Sections 39B and 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Meanwhile, 255 were charged for possession under Sections 39A(1), 12(3) and 6 of the same Act, as well as Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952,” he said, adding that 668 were charged for testing positive for drugs under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Saifuddin said the remaining 911 cases are still under investigation or trial, including those awaiting pathology and chemical analysis reports to complete investigations.

He was responding to a question by Onn Abu Bakar (PH–Batu Pahat), who asked for the number of police officers and personnel involved in drug abuse between 2020 and 2025, including the types of offences committed and the disciplinary or legal actions taken.

On disciplinary action, Saifuddin said the police’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department had conducted internal investigations.

“Disciplinary proceedings are carried out under Regulation 33(1) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 upon conviction in court.

“From 2020 to 2025, a total of 511 officers and personnel were subjected to disciplinary action, with 324 dismissed from service,” he said, adding that the others received punishments ranging from warnings to demotion.
