The establishment and upkeep of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong institution is a directive from Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
According to His Majesty, the country will be in chaos and the government will be weak if the institution goes against its purpose and basic character.
Aside from that, according to Al-Sultan Abdullah, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong institution is the final line of defense for national sovereignty and public welfare.
"Let this establishment be cared for." During the National Banquet held to mark the end of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong's reign, His Majesty remarked, “Dignify this institution and never pollute it with scorn and lies.”
Al-Sultan Abdullah recalled that throughout his tenure as Yang di-Pertuan Agong, His Majesty was endowed with the capacity to lead the nation with four prime ministers.
"God willing, the Most Honorable Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and I will dissolve the government together in the next two days if there are no issues or “other steps.”
"It never crossed my mind to take on the heavy task of appointing three prime ministers and leading the country out of a situation of uncertainty," he stated.
According to Harian Metro, Al-Sultan Abdullah declared that he always upholds the tenets of parliamentary democracy.
However, he asserted that altering anything only for political reasons does not help anybody.
"I believe there are no guarantees associated with the change in government. It offers no guarantees, much like when the Prime Minister and Cabinet members are replaced annually.
This was declared by Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah following his majesty's numerous political ploys throughout his five-year tenure as Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Indeed, today's 'people' are highly intelligent, proficient in their studies, and eager to explore new systems. This is my experience, and if you want to challenge the government administration, I hope what I mentioned earlier will hold true for at least four or five years.” said Al-Sultan Abdullah.
"Come on, not more than a year! Not more than a year (please, not more than a year)," the King declared to mark the conclusion of his reign at the Istana Negara.
According to Kosmo, Tunku Azizah Aminah Mainumah Iskandaria was also present.
Although several European nations can be used as examples, according to Al-Sultan Abdullah, the Federal Constitution has created the mechanism of government transfer through elections.
"We already have a democratic system in place for holding elections, as stated in the Federal Constitution. A government should rule for at least four or five years.” said Al-Sultan Abdullah.
